Battlefield 2142 Nvidia Bug: Anti Aliasing (180.84)

This is a weird graphical error that occurs on each driver that has been released since Forceware version 178.24. It occurs on GeForce 8 and all later series cards, if you let the application choose the Anti Aliasing settings or force Anti Aliasing to be enabled by the drivers. Turning AA to 2x or 4x in the game causes a screenwide spread of artifacts and if you turn on the cloaking device, the most of the screen will even get dark. The actual test was done on a Geforce 8200 onboard chip with 512 MB of RAM, the OS has been Windows XP 32 Bit, and the driver that is being used is the up-to date beta driver 180.84 (9.December 2008). The Anti Aliasing has been set ingame to 4x. Although Nvidia seems to be aware of the bug, the developers havent been able to fix it since 3 months. The players can avoid this bug by turning of Anti Aliasing in the Battlefield 2142 game menu, or even just turn it off in the drivers themself. If the player goes back to drivers version 177.92, he can use Anti Aliasing without bugs in Battlefield 2142 at all.

The bug still occurs with the 181.00 drivers from december 19th 2008.

Well it seems the issue is gone for me in the recent drivers 182.08. For me the use of AA 4x is possible without errors.

There have been new drivers released today (10.02.2009) version 182.05 Beta. I dont have the issue while using them.

If you revert the driver to 177.92 you'll of course also loose the performance boost for many games that came with the 178 drivers and the additional performance boost that came later with 180+ drivers. I personally prefer to disable all AA... Looks like we have to wait for a proper driver, at all.

i got the same problem on my Computer, it dissappears when i turn the AA ingame off and go 2 the nvidia control panel and enable the AA, but i got a PC on my room and in the kitchen both installed with BF2142, but the problem only occurs on my computer but not in the kitchen.

My PC= Winds xP

I had the same problem only my screen was completely white with the black holes. It looked like a perfect grid and only happend when a grenade would go off.

Turn of AA for it to work.

I still get the screen darkness. Disabling in-game and forcing via control panel used to work but doesn't seem to since 190.62 drivers. The nHancer program used to let me use 2x2 SSAA with no problems, but now I can't force anything regardless of tuning app. Vista x32, two 9800GTX+ in 16x SLI, 190.62 drivers.

I disabled AA in the game settings and enabled it in nvidia control panel and that seems to work.
