Driving with the top and windscreen down during winter and avalanche season through the Homer Tunnel of Southern New Zealand and through to one of the most stunning views in the world. Stick with it - its worth it.

  • damn cool footage! how was the road? slippery? haha last time i cruised through the tunnel there were icicles hanging off the walls or whatever, f***ing brilliant ^^ u had better weather than me too ya bugga :P

  • A bit slippery - we had surface ice and a temperature of minus 10 inside the middle of the tunnel. Water and ice were falling from the roof and we had to take it pretty slowly, but yeah, hell of a trip!

  • its gotta be one of the best drives in the country can't wait to do it again! but i don't think i'd be game enough to do it in the old thing you rolled through in lol how did it handle coming back up to the western entrance? it can be a tough climb our hilux fights it a lil bit plumes of smokes out the back and everything lol no wonder buses blow up there.

  • Just took it slow [40kph] and then topped up the oil by a sign that warned of avalanche risks forbidding stopping on the other side. Otherwise it was fine. Great fun but cold!!

  • lol any kea troubles?

  • Yep - stopped at the gorge for a look and on our return found our supply of ANZAC biscuits had been pillaged!!
