A parallel between St. Patrick's Day, a celebration of Irish history and tradition with the concept of celebrating Black history.

If you want to leave at intermission, that's ok.

Subsitute "Irish" with any other descriptive term. Asian, Native American, Scottish, German, Italian, and etc.

To forstall the obvious comments, yes- there is a difference between Race and Nationality, but it seems most people do not take any notice of that. And when it really comes down to, the criticism lies with culture and/or behavior using skin pigment as the original basis.

There is also a distinction between the terms "Pride" and "Power" Too often people use those terms incorrectly.

Defintions from: http://wordnet.princeton.edu/

Pride: a feeling of self-respect and personal worth

Power: possession of controlling influence

Power suggests the right to control simply because power exists.

Can we not be proud of our heritage and who we are, without disrepecting others for who they are?

Peace.

PS The use of the Irish Pride logo does not indicate that I think the Irish are better than anyone else, it's used a bit satirically.

  • but why did you have to start about the racial things?

    politcal correct bullsh*t

  • i did this last year (2008) in response to some vids at the time. peace

  • Happy St. Patty's Day to you coffeedude. no pictures of slavery. oh well. I'm going to address a vlog to you asking why there is white flight. history should NOT focus on the horrors of the past. MBD played the victim role to a tee and I'm still pissed. adressing that girl as if she were a slaveowner. slavery was abolished in 1865. if you discuss Black History, focus on the positives.

  • looking forward to your response, the reason i mentioned scholarships was because of the condsending manner that girl used. i find that as offensive, as you do MBD's vid. peace, bro.

  • Why is it wrong for blacks to celebrate their history and culture when Irish and non- irish celebrate St Patrick's day? You just answered your own question. We Irish are FLATTERED when non-irish pretend to be one of us. Blacks wouldn't be flattered if I pretended to be one of them. See? St Patrick's day is more inclusive. Plus I've never seen an irish comedian makes "jokes" about how stupid non irish are. That's another difference.

  • Ah okay.
