Boogie Down Productions was a hip hop group originally comprised KRS-One, D-Nice, and DJ Scott La Rock.
DJ Scott La Rock was murdered on August 27, 1987, only months after the release of BDP's debut album Criminal Minded.

The name of the group, Boogie Down, derives from a nickname for The Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City.
The group pioneered the fusion of dancehall reggae and hard edged hip hop music on their debut LP Criminal Minded.
It contained frank descriptions of life in the South Bronx of the early to mid 1980's.
Boogie Down Production's D-Nice also discovered then white rapper and current rocker Kid Rock in 1987 and helped him get a deal with Jive Records in 1988.
In 1988 Boogie Down Productions released their masterpiece By All Means Necessary, an album which included such audience favourites as My Philosophy, Still#1 and the safe sex anthem Jimmy.
It also features the track Stop The Violence, a song that KRS One wrote after the killing of DJ Scott La Rock.
The album By All Means Necessary went certified gold in 1989 and was followed by 2 more gold albums: 1989's Ghetto Music: The Blueprint Of Hip Hop (which featured tracks such as Jack Of Spades, You Must Learn, Why Is That, World Peace and Who Protects Us From You) and 1990's Edutainment (featured Ya Know The Rules, Love's Gonna Get'cha and Original Lyrics - a collab track with Special K).
After a succefull world tour Boogie Down Productions release the exciting live album Live Hardcore Worldwide, which contains both tracks from their first 4 albums as well as some new tracks like The Eye Opener and Come To The Teacher.
The album also featured the track Self Destruction.
Like lots of other Boogie Down Productions tracks, Self Destruction was a true uplifting song which was actually released on single as a side project called Stop The Violence.
The Stop The Violence Movement was formed by KRS ONE after a young fan had been killed in a fight during one of their concerts.
It featured a host of guest appearances by such great hip hop artists as Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Stetsasonic, Doug E. Fresh, Just Ice, Heavy D. and the Boyz, Public Enemy, etc.
In 1992 Boogie Down Productions released their final album called Sex And Violence.
It was a title that stood for everything they were not, but unfortunately the direction Hip Hop was headed towards.
Lyrically it was a typical Boogie Down Productions album of course with lots of socially-political issues being brought up and the music already showed a bit of the direction KRS ONE would go into with his 1993 solo album Return Of The Boom Bap.
Duck Down, 13 And Good and We In There were all singles taken from this final Boogie Down Productions album which also featured guest appearances by Freddie Foxxx and Kid Capri.
