http://www.nramuseum.org Rare firearm was a candidate for U.S. Army standard-issue gun. Museum Senior Curator Phil Schreier joins Cam Edwards and Ginny Simone to present the limited-issue 1907 Savage, a pistol used by the U.S. Marshals. The Savage was one of the pistols evaluated by the Army for use as their standard sidearm, an honor that ultimately went to the Colt M1911. While the Savage held its own in endurance tests and even possessed some design advantages, it cost $65 apiece as compared to $25 for the Colt.
