Meaning: TV through the antenna "on the rooftops" replaced real experience. TV steals our motivation - skip the news, boy, while we make tea in safe homes. Hypnotized by Batman, Tarzan a surprise. Time for wine. What have I done to make a better world? Nothing? Oh well. There's blood on the rooftops, but wouldn't I rather watch Venice in the spring? Used to have real wars, now actors fight them for us on TV. Just feed us more Mother Goose tales. TV now launches 1000 ships, not Helen. Oh well...

Love how this is put together mixing Steve's band & Phil & interesting pics. Still waiting for a good meaning of "Blood on the Rooftops." I could see why Hackett would leave the band after Genesis not playing this live. They played "One for the vine." in 1980.

@joha77johaa — Blood on the rooftops is not slang. The song is about a pair of “couch potatoes.” They’re people who spend a day watching TV but can’t really make sense of all the shows. The song was written by Steve & Phil when they were considered junior songwriters in Genesis. Domesticity and boredom replace the grand themes Tony Banks wrote about.
