The Heavy follow up the garage-band madness of Oh No! Not You Again! with pure vintage voodoo soul . Sixteen asks the question: how much can you learn in sixteen years? The answer is, a hell of a lot, but none of it good. The story of a girl who wants to grow up too fast, taking in dancing with the devil, nightclubbing, drinking and piping on the magic whistle.

Produced by Jim Abbiss (best known for his work with the Arctic Monkeys), Sixteen sees Swaby offering up a soaring soul vocal over a beat that swoops and bumps along just right.

All in all, another spine-tingling package from one of the most exciting bands in the UK just now, Sixteen is taken from The Heavys forthcoming second album, The House That Dirt Built.

"Sixteen" is out on Counter Records on 13th July and "The House That Dirt Built" on 21st September.

  • "Bad artists copy. Good artists steal."

    - Pablo Picasso

Yes, they used the main riff from "I put a spell on you", but goddamn did they do good things with it. Literally every fucking thing an artist can do has been done before at some point, but taking something old and making it your own is a talent just as admirable as making something new and bold in my books.

(Not to say Screamin' Jay Hawkins isn't magnificent.)

  • Can't believe i've never heard of this band until today... They're oh so good.
