I feel like this song is more about him as a music fan wanting someone to write and record some real music that is gonna last.

"Play a song that we can sing, Make us feel as we are free, Someone come speak for me."

I actually think that it is a pretty innocent song about feeling like he has no one writing songs that he can relate too. Maybe writing for his teenage self.

@myliachambers if you listen to the song, the lyrics mean a completely different thing to Taylor Swift's song, "Speak Now". I'm pretty sure it was a coincidence the titles are alike. (and how do we know that the song is even called 'speak for me' for sure?)

Anyway who cares if Taylor Swift dated him? See if you can relate the song to your own life rather than to a celebrity's.
