You hear those sounds way in the background at the beginning? They sound like they're used in Half-Life 2.

This is a BRILLIANT movie -- it ties in kabblah, islamic mathematic alchemy, european alchemy, migraines and the history of migraines (and auras) as seen as visits from god and/or the holy angels, and more! I'm just AMAZED that this movie hasn't blown up in popularity from fans of the Dan Brown books or Akira or Full Metal Alchemist. A pity. </3

In my humble opinion it is better then requiem. I would say that the story in pi is more abstract, more interesting and it reach for more primitive and universal problems. But as far as I remember everyone who's watch both movies and was asked the same question their response was the title which saw first.
