  • This is good music!

  • Personally, I am PROUD of all of US — the fans who have supported Ant Phillips — because we have allowed him to make the beautiful music we have had the pleasure of hearing. My life is much richer for having found Ant's music. My musical "birth" would not have been possible if it were not for him. May it continue on into eternity!

  • I swear I hear an ARP Avatar guitar synth in there....

  • god......not heard this for ages!!!! I loved it when i was about 11 and still do now. I had a cassette of it that my dad copied from one of his mates vinyl records. Only a youtube video of the Genesis history remined me of Ant and hence this youtube search.

  • 1984 is an under rated synth master piece once you get past the opening (overly cutesy) cut. Never could understand why it went un-noticed compared to other works by JM Jarre, Kitaro or Michael Oldfield at the time. I'm trying to figure out what synths he used: definitely Prophet 5 in there. Might be hearing some Korg Polysix and Roland Jupiters.

  • I know that poor Ant has been plagued by his decision to leave Genesis for all of his life. I personally think he did a great thing, giving us DECADES of beautiful music of his own. He should be proud. Although I think he would have sounded absolutely brilliant on an album like Foxtrot or Nursey Cryme.

  • @mikew4001 I am SO jealous! I bought this album when it first came out and would LOVE to still own it. Listen to it and love it for what it is: a great musician using what was available at the time to create big, fat progressive sounding music.

  • Great Ive bought the vinyl album for a few cents at a German flea market in 1984 (sic!) and always loved this underrated record!

  • @wolenweider : Especially 1984 part 1 & 2 ! Yes, the drum box sounds old, but Anthony Phillips shows us he's a fantastic composer !

  • YEAH, I'm the only person I know who ever heard of this album, and all my friends are musicians and aficianados. I got it accidentally in a used bin in the 80s and loved it from the first listen. It's really strong.

  • A lovely private bit of music that nobody knows about. Anthony Philips embraces the whole burgeoning synthesizer technology of the time and creates classical music with it. I just know there are scores of Prog Rock fans out that have never heard this masterpiece and it saddens me - a bit.
