This is one of my favorite plays, ever. Emma Thompson does an amazing job of portraying Dr. Berring!

Box of kleenex definitely needed.

The text from the music in the background is real and from a polish girl, who scrawled the words on a wall, being imprisoned by the gestapo during the Second War. She wrote: O Mamo nie płacz nie—Niebios Przeczysta Królowo Ty zawsze wspieraj mnie (Oh Mamma do not cry—Immaculate Queen of Heaven support me always). The composer Henryk Gorecki made the inscription to a song. It suits good to this amazing film.

@littleyellowgrl48 - Well she's an amazing actor. The whole cast was great, esp. Eileen Atkins. I love her in everything she's in as well. They have been in several movies together. If you enjoyed it, you should compare them and see what they were both in and see if it's something you'd enjoy. Either way, they're always a treat when you get to watch them. I found this movie very moving. I'm glad I bought it.
John Donne! Great stuff. This film got it wrong though. Donne does not make Shakespeare look like a Hallmark card. It's the other way around, at least in terms of accessibility. "I am a little world made cunningly..."

well, -- and this is another comparison --, at least one can (and should) read Donne's poetry. it disgusts me that we must read dramas and imagine the depth of Shakespeare's plays. bah! they're good when enacted. Titus comes to mind; also an recent, excellent reproduction.
