wow nice set up and beautiful fish it lloks like your fish is a female i know they say you cant tell but what i have notice all female oscar are oval and fat while males are thin and long you should buy another oscar to keep her company if you catch my drift (wink wink ) ;)

Thanks i've wondered about him being female, he also digs a pit sometimes and spits the sand around attacking his reflection.

also if you do get her a male make sure hes not bigger then she is try to get the same size or a tiny bit smaller ..everytime i buy a new oscar they fight for a couple of hours but dont separate them the next day they will love eachother and swim together i own 5 healthy oscars and 2 tanks and had to deal with this process everytime adding a new oscar

yes females dig pits to get ready to lay eggs wich means your oscar has hit its mature level to lay eggs basically your oscars is in heat ..
