The Melbourne Moonee Valley 1992 Cox Plate was an amazing race between two genuine superstars of the track; Lets Elope and Super Impose.

  • This is without a doubt the best race ever!! It had one of the best fields ever assembled, and it had all the drama a race needs!! The fall 650m out and then as the hit the turn the roar of the crowd was electrifying....... Super was amazing!!

  • Agree with precious comments, I've never seen a better field gathered together in one race. None of this year's Melbourne Cup field would've made it into this!

Crazy race this, who knows what the hell would've happened without all the drama, but gee old Super had to have the world's biggest heart to win this.

  • Only Dulcify's Cox plate and Kingston Towns Triple come anywhere near this. I just wish the Europeans would recognise how great this race is. For sheer drama on a saucer track, it just doesn't get any better.

  • I was standing on the hill watching the great mare round them up on the bend i backed rough habit who got smashed when pallace reign fell,as i remember naturelisam was odds on and the bookies were offering 50's for the 8 year old Super,so as i remember the crowd werent going off with Supers last stride win, just trying to keep it real very few are happy when a 50 to 1 wins!

  • Wish I was 'Of Age' to enjoy this race but only discovered the Joy of the GG's a few years ago... seen lots of racing since then, including So You Thinks two wins live at the track. The Cox Plate in my opinion is the greatest race in Australia. The Melbourne Cup is a great day for racing for the non-regulars to get to, but for the racing purist this is the one to see!

  • @Tam77775 beast race ever!

  • I was there that day and I'll never forget the roar of the crowd. I think everyone was going for Super despite half a dozen other champions being in the race.

  • Everything about this race is perfect - the field, the call, the finish - everything.

I still get shivers watching it the hundredth time over.

  • @cl0ngrf3 Pretty much sums it up. They talk about the '65 Arc field (Sea Bird II) being the best ever assembled. There was nowhere near the depth though of this field. Any of the horses in this field would have been competitive against any company, anywhere in the world.... even on the goat tracks they race on in the states ;)

  • I saw this race at the track. Super was a super horse ~ all astute judges would have to admit (I guess) that he won it by "default" I certainly thought so at the time& I don't alter my opinion. Was a schemozzle of a race.

  • How many unlucky runners? Palace Reign bolting when it went down, Coronation Day under double wraps the whole way down the straight looking for runs, BLU getting chopped out, Naturalism going down, Rough Habit getting checked out of it with Sydeston and STILL they went to the line as a bunch.

  • Undoubtedly the best Cox Plate field ever assembled. Thirteen of the 14 runners were Group One winners, and they won an astonishing 60 Group One between them, including the Melbourne Cup, the Japan Cup, two Cox Plates, three Caulfield Cups, two Doncasters, three Epsoms, two Stradbrokes, three Doomben Cups, two Australian Cups, three Oaks races, and two Derbies.
