Distinguished Hindi poet and UC-Berkeley linguist Ved Prakash Vatuk has spent his lifetime examining folk wisdom and racial prejudice. Recent publication of essays in honor of Vatuk, Studies in Inequality and Social Justice, prompted a book opening celebration at UCBs Center for South Asia Studies. The May 20, 2009 event unfolds here in four parts: Part One includes introductions to Vatuks achievements from Center chair Raka Ray, UC professor emeritus Padmanabh S. Jaini, and University of Colorado linguist Kira Hall, all of whom consider Vatuk a friend and mentor. Part Two consists of the first half of Vatuks talk. Parts Three and Four include the conclusion with poetry readings. To learn more about the work of Ved Prakash Vatuk, please contact the Center through its website: http://southasia.berkeley.edu/
