It was better for Commonwealth and Ottomans to forge an alliance. It would be enough to kick Russia out of Europe and pretend German countries from emerging. Commonwealth made a bad choice and had to pay to for that, along with Turkey.

@aporia82 The Turks also had the horrible habbit of tking boys to make Janissaries out of them.

@aporia82 The Ottoman landlords were interested mainly in squeezing as much wealth from the land as quickly as possible. Of major importance to Istanbul was the collection of taxes. Taxation left little for the former landlords to collect; Most of the nobility and large numbers of burghers emigrated into the Habsburg Kingdom of Hungary ("Royal Hungary") province. Wars, slave-taking, and the emigration of nobles who lost their land caused a depopulation of the countryside

@aporia82 "Egri Csillagok" is about, among other things, the successful defense of the fort of Eger. the Hungarians were vastly outnumbered and there was no help from Vienna. The people of Eger did not prefere ottoman rule or Habsburg rule. They prefered Hungarian rule.

@aporia82 Thokoly was the ruler of Transylvania a mostly protestant dependent state, not occupied but payed taxes to the Sultan. There were no turkish armies stationed in Transylvania. I am talking bout the suffring of the hungarians under direct turkish rule.
After these Ottomans were kicked out, the area they left behind was so depopulated that german slovak, serb etc.. people were settled there to work the land.
This is how my home town was settled by slovaks.

@aporia82 Unfortunately our king Sobieski trusted Habsburgs and they betrayed us... It's very typical to germans.

@cfaniakdebesciak The 'allies' (Habsburgs) who stubbed you on back, the enemy (Ottomans) never accepted the partition of poland, totally refused it.

@judomagyar Actually there were many Hungarian soldiers on the Ottoman army. Imre Thököly fought with the Ottoman army during the second siege of Vienna. Together with that, I remind you it was the Ottomans who helped Francis II Rákóczi during his revolt against the Habsburgs,many Hungarians preferred the Ottoman rule. Instead of telling stupid hate stories you better read some history first and do not believe everything written on 'Egri csillagok', it is only a book of nationalist propaganda.

@wawapl77 Więc sprawdz sobie chociażby warunki tego sojuszu i "warunki" na których kilka lat wcześniej sułtan oferował "sojusz" to może przestaniesz być tak "rozbawiony" moim stwierdzeniem.
Yh... if Poles didnt come they(turkey) could just pwn you easily... 100 years later u betrayed. typical behaviour for germanic countries. same as prussia, these bastards were living under polish protection only for this betraying act. it's funny more that it's sad...

@strategos300
Correction: Janissaries were first christian boys, forcibly taken from their parents.
The Turks came to Vienna to kill and rape and steel and destroy! The Viennese did not invite them!
Now what the hell is wrong with taking absolutely everything from these assholes? These Turks ruled a large part of Hungary for 150 years. Called the people "dog infidels", "kutya gyaur". They raped the land, tortured the people. This is just the truth.
