@archietherobot THAI AIRWAYS uses B747 and B777 on high density domestic routes like Phuket-Bangkok or Chiang Mai-Bangkok because many of the passangers are foreigners transiting Bangkok on THAI international flights so in order to get more transit passangers onboard they use bigger planes on some flights. No US or European carrier could afford to run a B777 with luxury business class on a 1hour flight...mayby only in Japan or between Bali and Jakarta. I wonder if this is economical though.

the new seats ARE in the 747s [well, certainly the ones that fly LHR-BKK, as I have flown many times in these seats on that route

not strictly accurate - the domestic business class and shorthaul business class aircraft have old, rather dreary seats - but sometimes a longhaul aircraft is drafted in on a doms flight and you get the "real thing" ...

Thai also has exact same seats on domestic business class as well, at least in their 747 and 777-200 aircraft. Can you imagine an airline in the US or Europe ever using this type of business class for their 90 minute flights? That's why I love Thai airways.
