Sam Harris is an author and commentator on philosophy and religion. He is the author of the bestsellers "The End of Faith", which won the 2005 PEN Award for Nonfiction, and "Letter to A Christian Nation". Harris' writing has been published in over ten languages and has garnered attention from numerous media outlets and journals. Harris also makes regular appearances on television and radio to talk about the danger that religion now poses to modern societies. Harris was educated at Stanford University and is currently completing a doctorate in neuroscience.

This is a digital age, one in which a wealth of accessible information empowers you, but where is the information coming from? How accurate and unprocessed is it? How empowered do you feel debating a television screen or a newspaper? The task is to move the discussion away from talking heads and talking points, and give it back to you. That is Big Think's mission.

  • @MrThor4u What a witty response! You owned him! Wow! I thought he was an incredibly intelligent man who makes fact-based, fascinating arguments, but you've totally changed my mind! What a doofus Sam Harris, famous author, lecturer, and PhD neuroscientist, is! His achievements must indeed pale before the onslaught of your own accomplishments!

  • @ReptarSickness must feel strong.

  • @HufflepunkNya Interesting. I find it compelling that these "scientific and high minded" people cannot come up with better terms that would support There are assertions instead of someone else's. If you don't believe in spirit then you should not use spiritual describe anything. My thoghts.

  • @waynepoint It is confusing, though. Certain people use the terms 'spiritual', 'soul', 'religious', 'God' and 'heaven/hell' in ways that differ from the common or original meaning. Like Einstein, when he says 'god does not play dice', though he denied belief in a personal god. They are profound words, and we like to resort to them for profound things, even if it's a bit off the mark.

  • @waynepoint A language problem, I think. From what I've gathered from Sam Harris's speaking, and indeed a good few other like-minded individuals, the term 'spiritual' is used in a more natural way than to refer to a soul that is apart from us or a supernatural thing. It's the only word we seem to have to apply to those moments when you're in a heightened state of euphoria, peace or perhaps terror. A product of our natural components, that Sam wants to pay attention to rather than dismiss.

  • @HufflepunkNya My IQ is going up. Good job! LOL

  • @ShellsOnTheFloor the "lmao" really hammered his point home

  • The next step in evolution = Higher IQ = Atheism.

  • Stop feeding the troll that thinks his IQ levels up like a pokemon. xD Damn.

  • @InteGrayting2 Thanks bro. Well, looks like my IQ is going up, +80 at the moment.

  • @ShellsOnTheFloor Couldn't have put it better myself. Thank you.
