I have to admit that the Kenton Band has been moved into second place for me by "The Big Phat Bamd" I had strong classical training on the clarinet, so melody is super important to me. I think there are historically two classes of jazz clarinet players - Eddie Daniels and everybody else, although I do remember being 11 or 12 and thinking Benny Goodman was outstanding. AND he was for his time.
Try to find some stuff by the Big Phat Band with Eddie Daniels.
I am 71 and this video chokes me up and brings tears to my eyes. It is had to believe that a 13 or 14 year old kid - me - from a totally nonmusical family "got it" as a very eary teen.. I played alto saxophone and clarinet
I can still remember where I was standing about 55 years ago when I was at a friend's house and he put on "Don't Take Your Love From Me". I was stunned. It is still my favorite solo. It took about 50 years to find out the soloist was Bud Shank
Was Kim Childers related to the greatest(?) of the Kenton trumpet players - Buddy Childers? Buddy's straight through lead/solo on Autumn in New York is as good as it gets.
Too fast ha ha

They messed up the saxophone personnel. Lead alto is John Park and and on 4th baritone is his son Kim Park (not Childers)

I saw him live in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) around this time, in an intimate setting like this. Heaven.

Mary Fettig is on the band so it has to be prior to 1974. She left in late '73.
