NCLB and RTTT have had a devastating effect on public education. They are convenient for bureaucrats, who in their desire for tangible evidence fail to realize that objective test scores are not a valid indicator that students are learning anything of value. This project was created using Scratch, a free educational product created by the Media Lab at MIT. It's a pity that most schools are too busy preparing students for standardized tests to utilize Scratch in order to enhance student learning!

  • Preaching to the choir here, my friend. Agree 100%

  • @kenrg I'm hoping this will get used in the Google/Fox Presidential Debate. Obviously it's a long shot, but I figure it was at least worth a shot.

  • you should do a vlog on this!!!!!

  • @GEEZERKLIPS I probably should have explained in the video description that this is an entry for the Google/Fox Presidential Debates that's scheduled for next week. It's a long shot that they'll pick it, but I don't have any chance at all if I don't try!

  • The way I see it, we have the wrong priorities for our short lives. It's all about trying to "out do" the other guy... not just to outproduce, but to squash them in the process. If mankind could ever realize that there are more than plenty of resources for us to all live a nice life, maybe then we wouldn't feel the necessity to push our kids to such ridiculous levels.

  • @RightArmProductions Good points! I don't think anyone is very happy with the education system as it currently exists. The problem is that it's hard to get people to agree on what parts need to be changed and how the system can be improved. My feeling is that the system should be more flexible to better accommodate the needs of different people and that we should get away from the one-size-fits-all model we currently have. NCLB and RTTT push standardization and that's really the core problem.
