  • Sorry, the only way I can answer a question is to post here. The background quilt is made with die cut applique shapes, all cut on my Sizzix machine. That die is an Appli-K-Kutz die called "Feather, large" and the pattern and dies are available on my web site. YouTube doesn't allow url posting here, so google Patsy Thompson Designs and you'll find it.

  • If you emboss the fabric alone...does it come out when you wash it? Also, if you have fused an applique onto a quilt square (for example, the bird), when you quilt do you go right over the bird with your quilt design or do you 'leave that part out' and have no quilt stitching over the shaped applique? Thank you!

    Hi,

I haven't washed any of the quilts that have fabrics I've embossed; I've only used the embossing on wall hangings. My instinct tells me that the embossing would either wash out or significantly lessen.

I do quilt on my fusible applique shapes, but I don't quilt an "all-over" pattern that just kind of "runs over" them. I use decorative threads that embellish the applique piece. If you scroll through my blog, there are tons of photos of how to do this.

  • Patsy,

Hope you don't mind me asking what die u use to make the applique on the background? they're so gorgeous!

  • Thanks for your nice words about the appliques on the quilt behind me. Those appliques were all cut by my Sizzix Big Shot machine using our line of Appli-K-Kutz dies. If your local quilt shop does not carry them yet, visit our on line web store, and in the Search Box, type Appli-K-Kutz.

  • Hi Kacklebird,

(This is the only way I can respond to a question, so that's why I'm not emailing you directly). YES, you are correct! You will still need to use a shim to raise the Accuquit Go dies high enough, but it will work perfectly for you. Try stacking 2 used Priority Mail envelopes on top of one another. Good luck and enjoy your Big Shot Pro. I have one as well and it's a great machine!

  • Hi Patsy,

I was thinking of getting the Sizzix Big Shot Pro(not the Westminster). Wouldn't the Accuquilt Dies work in that as well since it's bigger than the small one you're using in your video. Just want to make sure before I jump and buy one. Oh, your video is great too :)

  • how to do ur background design please?

  • thank you for all of your information. Are you a teacher? great job don't stop with the ideas.

  • Patsy,

Your video is great. I particularly like your lint brush idea. Very clever!!! Thank you.
