  • Im in love with Austen! But I wonder: What is the name of this kind of dance? I've always wanted to learn it! I've always told myself that I was born in the wrong century and: Where to buy those old empiredresses?? I've looked everywhere! I cant find them :( So please, if you know where to find them? please tell me :)

The type of dancing you saw in the Jane Austen video is called English Country Dancing. Today, it is widely taught and dance in most major US cities. Regency period clothing (including empire dresses) are available from many sources (ebay, War of 1812 reenactor groups). Much of the clothing worn by the dancers were sewn by the dancers themselve with patterns from Joann's Fabrics.

  • I'm not sure I would remember the steps, but I've always found great pleasure in witnessing structured dancing because it seems to take such discipline to learn the steps and so much patience to follow the flow of the music and of your several partners. Capital, indeed!

  • Thanks for posting this! I was in attendance, and it's great fun to remember the occasion. :-)
