United Nations, New York, 26 February 2010 - Video Message from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the occasion of International Women's day 2010.

The fight for women's rights is central to the UN's global mission.
Fifteen years ago, in Beijing, Governments committed themselves to equality, development and peace for all women, in all countries.
The Beijing Declaration was a landmark on the road to women's empowerment.
It has guided policy making.
It has inspired women and girls to strive for equality and opportunity, and reminded everyone that this is their right.
We have seen progress.
Girls are now more likely to receive an education.
Women are now more likely to run businesses or participate in government.
But much work remains.
Death in childbirth is still too common. Too few women have access to family planning.
Violence against women remains a cause of global shame, and sexual violence in war is endemic.
I have just appointed a special representative to mobilize international action to address these crimes.
At the United Nations itself, we have more women in senior posts than at any time in history.
Securing women's rights is central to all our hopes for peace, security and sustainable development.
As we look back on 15 years of achievement, let us look forward to a world of equality and progress for all.

  • Stupid brutes!

Don't you know everyday is men's day everywhere, in any part of the world. This is a patriarchal world. Everything is for men, dominated by men. Brute, brute, brute! Stupid brutes!

  • May 31 is the Indian Mens day and nov 19 is american mens day

  • no doubt that we are still crossing over to the dark sides of the world. still in some nations occupied by militant force, their people are suffered in diverse ways as such a sexual violation, work slavery and the low literacy rate. In this century, we are exactly in the peace corps and should study for any methodological ways to escape humans out of wrong violators. Too obvious make so much sense now but we all as global crew have to give as many hands as possible over to the beauty of world.

  • On international women's day, best wishes to all sisters, mothers, friends and daughters.

In ancient India, woman has always been worshipped as PARA SHAKTI or UNIVERSAL

FEMININE POWER.Without this power,no creation is possible. An old sanskrit mantra

signifies this " YATRA YATRA PUJAYANTE NARYAHA, RAMANTE TATRA DEVATAHA.

Translation: Wherever women are worshipped(respected) ,the divine is there.

  • Let's correct everyone...It is national white male, heterosexual Day everyday...get over yourself you brute....

  • International Women's Day?

    I have only one observation...

    There is so much hypocrisy!

  • I'm female and I agree with you 100% I've never understood why men only have fathers day.

    It IS unfair.

Hopefully one day that can be changed.

  • Women's day and no men's day that does not sound equal to me
