That Mysterious Rag - Ragtime Violin - medley
Music by Irving Berlin and Ted Snyder
Performed by Victor Military Band
Recorded Jan. 24, 1912

Although the record label says "Ragtime Violin", it's actually a medley of two Irving Berlin compositions:
"That Mysterious Rag" and "Ragtime Violin." Irving Berlin was one on the most prolific composers of "ragtime" songs, yet he would not be considered a true ragtime composer. One year prior to this recording, Berlin composed "Alexander's Ragtime Band", one of his most famous pieces, however the song did not contain any of the syncopation normally associated with ragtime music.

  • Wow, excellent sound quality - so noiseless! May I ask what software you use? Your uploads are among the very best on YT!

  • @Emidicta Thanks for your comments. I usually post 78s that are in very good condition. That's that most important factor. Other factors are correct stylus size and equalization. I use Audacity to capture the sound using an external USB sound card. Software called ClickRepair does miracles, it's worth the small investment. I use only the minimum denoise, rather than introduce sound artifacts.
