Morning Church--South Swell April 2007

Surfing in SoCal on April 5, 2007 during one of the best south swells in recent years. Surfline posted my longboard video (Long Board Action), but not this one--so here it is.

Glad to hear its the same albeit more crowded. My buddies and I used to surf that spot all the time. Wed march down from Old Mans (which we generally eschewed because we considered it a longboard wave) clad in our 80s day-glo wetsuits. At the time, I rode a 60 Hobie thruster with a channel bottom and a Jackson Pollock-esque paint-splatter airbrush. Those were the days!

I was in another life back then, but I've seen the photos of you guys. Bummer I missed out on it. Day-glo suits! Too much fun...

I grew up surfing Churches back in the 80s. I loved that spot. It's a great break. Haven't surfed there in ages, though.

It's still the same waves according to the old guys in the water--except it's a lot more crowded. You can catch it alone if you wait out the crowds, but it's getting harder to do that.

best on a south swell ... only go there on a south it's not worth it the rest of the year!!

Correct. San Clemente is north of Trestles. But "this" as in "where is this," which I took to mean the location of the video, IS south of Trestles, in front of the Camp Pendleton San Onofre Rec Camp. I just referenced San Clemente to get him in the right part of the state.
