( http://www.TFLcar.com ) The 2012 Chevrolet Volt and the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid represent two family cars that have a similar yet completely different way of saving fuel. The Volt is both an electric car and a plug-in hybrid in that it can run on both electricity (about 40 miles) and gas. The Camry is a more traditional hybrid in that cannot go a very long distance on just electricity but it use its electric motor in conjunction with the gas engine to go further on a gallon of gas. So which is the better family car? Check out this mashup review to find out.

  • This is the wrong comparison for the Chevy Volt. If you compare it to anything, it should be the EVs that are out there (Nissan Leaf) or the plug-in Prius that will come in the middle of the model year. Want a comparison for the Camry Hybrid? Try the Ford Fusion Hybrid or the eAssist '13 Chevy Malibu.

  • @76carmel Didn't we say the same thing in the mashup review?

  • Roman, tell GM to put a bigger electric motor in the Volt. 0 to 60 in over 10 seconds is not only unacceptible but dangerous. This car on going to die on the vine if GM doesn't improve the performance or offer a real sports car option.

  • @lgreen5 Please keep in mind that for our 0-60 Volt run we had 3 guys in the car plus a full tank of gas.

  • that volt horn sounds stupid...

  • @kingofwacky That's not the Volt's horn. That's the electric vehicle in motion warning sound.

  • Camry all day everyday. Volt takes 10 hours to charge and how long long can one fully charged battery travel?

  • The Chevy Volt pipeline is overflowing. GM is sitting on 6,300 Volts which represents 154 days of inventory at current sales levels and that's no way to sell cars for a profit. As such, GM is shutting down production of the Volt for five weeks beginning on March 19. Not surprising cause the car is outrageously priced maybe give more rebates on these POS you might sell more you wonder why people by the competition. GM failed again.

  • @AZNL3VER before tax credits

  • @jonajs98 and I would be better off buying a Volt because YOU ARE IMPRACTICAL

  • I think electric cars, for now, are impractical.

  • @lgreen5 that was 0 to 60 with 2 guys in the winter. Normal 0-60 is 8.8. Going up mountains, the generator, the battery, and the 2 electric motors hook up and provide 200 + hp. I go up the siskiyous (the vine is a mole hill). I zip along, passing slow pokes. You have to put it in mountain mode. Go to youtube/ chevrolet volt: how does it work? for a cool animated demo of how the 3 motors work. The performance is great. You need to test drive one. Take it up a hill.

  • @mcximus 390 miles. look it up

  • 2012 Chevy Volt cost more than toyota camry

  • @lgreen5 there is a sport mode that makes it 2-3 secs quicker, but its a hybrid vehicle, you dont buy it for uber speed.

  • If you haven't driven a Volt, you don't know what you are talking about. It is a very solid car, handles well, the interior is excellent and most people are getting more than 35 miles of AER 9 months of the year and around 25-30 in the winter. Plus it uses American electricity instead of foreign oil most of the time. Great car.
