Peak Moment 106: Patrick Marcus and other motivated citizens sprouted a community garden on city land slated to be a park in Ashland, Oregon. When the garden was threatened by plans to develop the park, they got active. Their research and advocacy led to official policy supporting community gardens in city parks. As the volunteer garden manager, Patrick affirms gardening isn't just for leisure -- it helps build community. It creates bonds among people from diverse social spheres -- through shared work, classes, potlucks and, most of all, shared passion. [www.communitygarden.org]

  • They dont even make movies about shit like this, nothing about self reliance, solar power, renewable energy, moving out of society & living off the grid.

They dont because WE ARE THEY OIL THAT LUBRICATE THE MACHINE thats call society.

  • That's why we're doing Peak Moment shows. Now's the time when we need to ensure we can take care of ourselves and our neighbors. Hurricane Katrina (and Haiti) taught us that we can't expect the government to take care of us.

  • @MrSybertek right because private america will suddenly all get together next month and take the billions they spend on processed frozen foods and help a community in the bronx plant vegetables. a democratically elected government represents the interest of the country rather than the profit margin of the private sector. Get your head out of ron paul's ass.

  • @mwells219 Community gardens are good but not when the city or parks and recreation own the land. That is government and when government owns it they own you and can dictate to you and can take it away at anytime. Get the community together and rent property or buy, don't get it from the government. That is total ignorance.

  • @BadassCeino: For me, I bought a cabin in the woods for myself. I have 2 acres of land. I grow my own food on my land. It's self reliance and it's so quiet living in th woods. No cars, no noise, no stress! It's just me, myself, and I. I wash and dry my clothes in the sunshine. I don't need a washer or dryer except in the winter times when it's cold or snowy. LOL.

  • If we turn our back on society that shit will crumble in a day, no shit! & IT'S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.

  • Governments dont want this, they want people to buy there modified foods. They dont want people to be self reliant, they want everyone to depend on them.
