Released in 1990 this is one of the best games on the Sega Genesis and created by master game designer Yu Suzuki, who previously designed Out Run and Hang On! This CGRHD review of After Burner II has gameplay footage recorded from After Burner 2 showing Afterburner 2 game play of the F-14 fighter jet blowing away waves of enemy jets and helicopters (even though the Afterburner II game cartridge shows an F-15 Eagle instead of an F-14 Tomcat.) Yu Suzuki's arcade masterpiece from 1987 makes an explosive appearance on the Genesis with smooth, colorful gameplay and excellent controls. Great review, there is also Afterburner 3 and the recent (well 2006) game 'Afterburner Climax'

Sega AM2 released a similar game 'Aero Elite Combat' for the PS2 yous hould also consider reviewing. I personally think Ace Combat series is the best for today's flight combat sim games.

By the way, if you have an iphone or android there is a genesis and mame arcade emulator in which you can play all genesis, snes, arcade, neogeo and other games.

@Troyman021 Granted it's on the default config but you can (and should) turn it off in the options. I despise autofire on general principle as it basically cheapens the game.

I think outrun genesis was better than this. it's missing too much arcade graphics and you have autofire on by default. I would agree this was the best console version at the time and impressive comapred to the 8-bit versions.
