This is my representation of Garden City.
It is personal, and holds photos that hit home to me and my life.
Is it a reflection of all Garden? Of course not. Gettin' some slack from someone about this so I thought I'd throw this little bit out there before any one else over reacts to the photos that I took during my short visit of Garden.
------

This is my hometown of Garden City, KS.
I went back home for the weekend and during my stay I went to the trailer park I grew up in and the areas that surrounded it, then ventured around and photographed things I felt relevant to my Garden City "experience."

I'm not out to make Garden City look "ghetto" or "hood," because it really isnt, It can get dirty at times though and I just want to show the world things that people tend to overlook or ignore or maybe not even see.

People have it hard and it's amazing what conditions people live in.
It really sucked when I found a home, the size of a small shack, using an actual padlock as their door lock.

Anyway,
this is my hometown. This is the place that I love. Garden City, Kansas. Proud.

  • This video is amazing and beautifully done but I am sorry to say that it is the most melodramatic beautifully wrapped piece of bullsh*t I have seen in quite some time. I grew up here and am still living here, everyone knows about the trailers the packing plants that bring in cheap labor and our "gang" prob.. is laughable our so called gangs are a joke and everyone knows that too. I think you should be ashamed, this vid has agenda written all over it is simply fantastic propaganda on your part

  • @julsfine hey, sorry you feel that way. I didn't say anything about gangs or cheap labor, or anything.

I have plenty of photos that show the beauty of the place. I love this area just as much as you, I can assure you of that.

I lived there for 18 yrs, took photos of what I saw and that's that.

There's no denying that it can get dirty at times, this is my personal video that rang true to my days as a child, so I apologize if I my life representation doesn't sit in line, I was simply taking photos

  • @1ringochris Maybe I did. I've cooled down since. Its old already from the Eastern Side of KS which I have lived myself. I would have undertsood completely if it had just been the trailer park that he grew up in, thats real, when you go around a town and take additional pics to show just the side u would like to show it changes things to me. I do think the pics are awesome and Travis is an astounding photographer, I think he did try to make a point w/pics that I disagree w/ and he hasnt owned

  • look what tyson did.

  • @wathen004 Garden City is one of a few towns in southwest Kansas with meat packing plants. The work has always attracted Mexicans. Tyson foods has one of their largest plants in this region of the state along with Cargill and National Beef in neighboring Dodge City Kansas.

  • Garden City . Go Buffs!

  • I was wondering why there is such a large Hispanic population in this town (and maybe all of Kansas). I'm from the gulf coast in Texas and now live in north Florida and there are not many Hispanics here, at least not to what I'm used to in Texas.

    Just curious.

  • love the video travis, while yes this does make gc look bad these places do exist as im sure they do in all citys, every city has its blemishes, not all of gc is like this.

still nice vdeo man, when can we meet up for a shoot?

im apr stage 1 tuned goint stage 2 in a few mnths...willing to pay youve come along ways since you did me and my wifes family/senior pix

much love man keep doing what your doing!

  • This is an awesome video. makes me miss home!

  • You know you're from Garden City when you have nothing else to do but argue on the internet!!!! Good video Travis, you haven't let me down yet.

  • You're an idiot, his art is an attempt to bring socio-economic issues to the forefront of our minds. He should not be ashamed for taking pictures of places that exist. Further, his so called "agenda" is mearly the PURPOSE for his art. He MEANT to show things that people don't realize are there. Does that mean that anything done with a purpose is to spread a corrupt agenda? Absolutely not. You should open up your eyes and realize that there is hurt and pain in this city, just like any other.
