When You're Gone [chapter15]

[He smiled and kissed my forehead. We stayed like that for a while, just hugging, not speaking. Letting the silence overcome us. Just taking everything in. he left a while later to be home for dinner and I sat in my room, on my bed staring at the box I had next to me. I put the lettermen jacket on my chair. The song sheets on my desk. the box of picks on my dresser. The pictures, I stuck on my dresser mirror and the hoodie I slipped over my head. It was soft and familiar. I missed that. Familiar. I went to sleep early that night, thinking about Nick. That night was one of the rare ones that I had where my dreams didnt revolve around Jonathan.]

[2 weeks later]
[The past two weeks have pretty much been the same. Nick and I were very subtle about our relationship at school. It was easier not having them know. out of school, we were taking everything slow. Hed hold my hand and walk me home. Hed kiss me goodnight. We hung out, but things stayed restrained, not moving too fast. On Saturday, I walked over to Nicks house and Joe answered the door.]

J: hey sarah. Come on in.
S: thanks.
[I walked inside and he closed the door behind me.]
S: is Nick here?
J: yeah, hes outside in the backyard with Frankie. You can go on out.
S: okay. Thanks.

[I walked to the back door and opened it to see Nick chasing a laughing Frankie around the yard. I quietly closed the door behind me and leaned against the brick wall, watching them. Nick finally caught Frankie and gently tackled him to the ground. They both stood up, laughing, and saw me. nick smiled and walked over to me.]

N: hey.

[He kissed my cheek and gave me a quick hug. I looked down and ran my fingers through my hair.]

S: I brought you something.
N: yeah?
S: mhm. Its nothing big or anything. Justsomething.
N: ok. Hold on.

[He called Frankie over and told him to go inside and see what joe was doing. After Frankie was inside, we sat down at the patio table, across from each other. I grabbed his arm and set it on top of the table and opened up his palm. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the guitar pick that had Jonathans favorite design that I had put on a chain and set it in Nicks hand. He pulled his hand back in and examined it. He smiled for a minute but I saw his lip quivering. He put his hand on his forehead and I panicked until I heard him sniffle. He was going to cry.

Over three months of holding in his emotions and he was finally about to crack. I had been selfish. Thinking only I was in pain, only I needed to be comforted. When truthfully, nick needed someone too. It was time to repay him for all he had done for me. I got up and sat next to him in his chair. He set his head on my shoulder and I had one arm wrapped around him and one hand on the back of his head, rubbing up and down his back and neck. I didnt say anything. Partly because I didnt know what to say; and because I didnt want to make it worse. I leaned back in the chair, keeping Nick close to me, letting a few of my own tears fall. ]

so, ive been busy with final exams, but i took a break and decided to post.
