  • @OutlanderWarrior : Moe's own words. His goal was always accuracy not distance and he was a relatively short hitter. If Jack was averaging 268 then Moe would have been in the 250's. Of course, back then the courses were shorter and the balls were horrible. As far as Moe's increased distances later in lfe - look at the Senior PGA Tour. These guys admit it is technology and that it allows them to drive the ball further than they did on the regular tour when they were young.

  • @auggiedoggy, 260 in his day would have been a long drive, just so you know. Remember, if you check the PGA Tour driving stats for 1980, you'll see that the longest hitter was only averaging 270 or 275. And Nicklaus, for instance, was only hitting it about 268. In other words, 260 with the old equipment would certainly equate to a 300-yard drive today. And, to buttress this point, since he was old and out of shape later in life, it tells you something if he was hitting it 280.

  • Ok, let's get real with Moe's distances off the tee. Moe adittedly was a shorter hitter. He did not drive the nall 300+ yards. He probably avereaged 260 off the tee in his day. Later in life with improved technology he was getting 280 off the tee with a driver. He was concerned with accuracy, not distance.

  • When I was younger I had a persimmon driver and hit it consistently 300 yards and

longer when I had very good rythmn. So it is not out of the question he hit it 325 depending on conditions.

  • I don't stand quite as far away from the ball as Moe but have started to hit it great.

Went to the practice range today. I take two or three half practice swings before I hit with virtually no wrist break(pendulum)...and the idea of transfering weight from my right leg to my left leg. Try it, it works!! Moe's swing thought of a pendulum is absolute brilliance!!!!

  • He probably broke all the course records up there by now!

  • 310 yard drive?!?! Wow!! Everyone knows Moe's ball striking and uncanny accuracy...but was not known to be a long hitter...but I didn't know he can hit it that long then!!

  • vijay singh hit balls with moe numerous times and claims that moe was hitting 270 yards out of divots!! As vijay said in a interview" I ain't seen a better ball striker, every thing he said he could do ,He did". I changed my swing to moes about a month ago.I lost about 15 yards on my drive but i still have alot to learn .A much more consistent swing. The ball goes virtually dead staight and the onger the club (4 iron, woods) the easier to hit.I stuggled with the 9 iron but am starting to get it .
