If you wanna increase your racquet head speed, don't try to swing faster, but make sure you use all parts of your body. Put your big muscle groups "on stretch" as you prepare and unwind your body from the ground up.

And: Stay relaxed! Don't force anything. That should help you develop a powerful swing and lower the risk of injuries.

  • What is better. To make impact with a straight elbow like RF ...or bent like Djokovic ??

  • @FairwayJack I think with the straight arm technique you have to have very good shoulder rotation to reach the extreme contact point. For recreational players like us the question is: Can I rotate my torso in the same extreme fashion as Fed? Keep in mind: More movement can cause trouble to your timing and control. My experience tells me that most rec players are better off with the double bend technique that Djokovic and the majority of pros use. Best!

  • did he say shorter backswings??? or shoulder hehe cuz of the accent is it shorter or shoulder??^^

  • He did say "shorter" ;-))

  • damn is that an eastern forehand grip? coz it doesn't look like a western or a semi western his swing is like an eastern!

  • Federer is known for playing with a modified Eastern: From the Eastern position shift your index knuckle half a bevel toward a Semi-Western. This grip gives him a great versatiliy.

  • @FairwayJack Depends on your grip. If you have an eastern like RF, you have to go for a straight elbow, its actually impossible to hit correctly otherwise. If you have a western or semiwestern, then bend your elbow. Once again it is impossible to do otherwise.

  • @FairwayJack If u want a forehand , get Federer's , and a backhand , get Nole's xD

  • commentator sounds like a gaylord

  • most beautiful shot in this great sport

  • poetry in motion

  • @MostPowered That "tilt" is referred to as a "closed face" in tennis terms. Nadal's racquet face is even more closed than Federer's on impact because his extreme grip. The western grip forehand racquet face is almost 45 degrees from the horizontal when it connects and brushes up the ball, using the grip from the strings to generate spin. You'll actually see more miss hits from that forehand than Federer's because of the lesser area left for the ball to make contact.

  • also notice how federer shifts his weight to the ball. it adds power by adding his body weight

  • wow roger made classic recquet speed.. and yes nice video analysis about federer forehand groundstrock. good job..

  • so he pretty much makes contact w/ the ball when his racquet is tilet when hitting the Windshield wiper forehand.. My coach told me not to do that because it leads to more mis hits. The only other option fore more spin seems to be nadal's forehand

  • Thats PeRFection!!
