At 8,848 metres or 29,029 feet, Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth. By the end of 2010, attempts to climb the mountain had claimed 219 lives. One of those who died was famed British climber George Mallory. Author, and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence,Wade Davis examines the 1920's expeditions and Mallory's eventual death in "Into the Silence: The Great War, Mallory and the Conquest of Everest".
