  • doomed I tell you...doomed.

  • 100,000 tons is 10%. of all of the debris, that is quiet a lot of heart ache for the great citizens of CHCH. It's just unfair for the people living there having to put up with all of this. I find it fully commendable that those that have stayed it shows that Cantabrians are indeed filled with resolve and "let it be long and true".

Keep up with the good work CHCH as Christchurch will return with a vengeance.

  • @RoyalSatanas Around 100,000 tons of rubble has been collected from the quakes so far. That's only about 10% of the expected final amount. Proper cleanup will take years.

  • Land of sinners???

  • Where do you begin to clean up, the damage is so wide and vast. It'll take months for it all to be cleaned up. Christchurch you have my unlimited sympathy. Keep strong.

Just when will this Nightmare end for CHCH residents. Mother Nature is just ripping this great city apart.

  • This exponential stretching in turn puts pressure on every existing weaker geological feature.

It also becomes necessary for the liquid and gaseous contents of the earth's mantle (below the firm/cooled crust) to move with these new contortions.

"Stuff" is moving around under our feet like we have not experienced in recent (read, "documented") history.

Keep it in mind that: more melt = more movement

Also, that: every movement accelerates the process.

Just like a snowball rolling downhill!

  • best wishes to all down there from OZ

  • This land is sinking.

Being pulled down as the ocean bottom sinks lower.

This effect is called Post Glacial Rebound.

As the polar ice melts, like all flowing water, it will find the lowest area it can reach.

    Oceans are still those areas.

As earth's crust under the oceans receives that EXTRA WEIGHT, it must stretch to fit.

  • @DamienNicholas yep....

  • thats insane
