On rare occasions this huge 18ft x 12ft US Flag is flown from the West Island Weather Station tower. Certain criteria must be met before flight. Wind speed 11 knots minimum not exceeding 18 knots out of the West Southwest or North Northwest. This huge flag covers an area of 216 sq feet,(the average flag is 15 sq ft) and is monitored during display. Any wind shift could be catastrophic to the tower and instruments. It's beauty is well worth the risk. MLBaron's experience with the tower's rigging goes back almost 20 years. http://www.westislandweather.com/islandweatherradar.htm
