The Prime Minister made a pitch to the UN General Assembly for a seat on the Security Council. Stephen Harper reminded delegates of the "heavy price" Canada is paying for its mission to Afghanistan.

UNITED NATIONS — Canada withdrew its candidacy for a seat on the powerful United Nations Security Council after refusing to "water down" its foreign-policy values, a spokesman for Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Tuesday.
