It's the first time in 50 some years since a steam locomotive has been to Tunkhannock. In part 1 of this 2-part video, we follow 425 southbound from Tunkhannock down the Reading & Northern's "Lehigh Line" to Jim Thorpe.

Watch part 2 for the northbound "return" trip from Jim Thorpe to Tunkhannock.

A big thanks goes out to Kyle Sanders for navigating the chase. Special thanks to Adam Christman for helping us find our way through Pittston!

  • why does this engine need two tenders?

  • Distance. The engine uses a lot of water and the second tender, known as an 'auxiliary tender' carries additional water for long trips.
