(http://mdgs.un.org/unsd/mdg/Default.aspx) The MDG Report 2009 is a U.N. assessment of the international effort to raise the global base standard-of-living by alleviating extreme hunger and poverty, increasing disease prevention and providing universal primary education. These goals, to be achieved by 2015, are encapsulated in the eight Millennium Development Goals, or MDGs. At an event in late July at the Rayburn Congressional Office building, a panel of experts --- including (in order of appearance) North American Coordinator for the U.N. Millennium Campaign Anita Sharma, Vice President for Global Health of the U.N. Foundation Dan Carucci, and Chief of Statistical Planning and Development at the U.N. Statistical Division Francesca Perucci --- presented on the findings of the MDG Report 2009.
