I have tossed my hat into the great and talented pool of video directors that prove YouTube is not a languid wash of drunken 3 AM clips. Unlike some others, I have turned my ears further back, into an era of music waiting to be explored.

Of course, I do not own the rights to either Balto or this music, but these copyright holders should not be offended. First of all, nobody as of yet has put these two pieces of art together, and that in itself is a work of originality. Secondly, I do in fact consider these works to be pieces of art, and if anything I am celebrating that effect and sharing it with the world. You have inspired me, you can take that to your credit, but there is no profit potential or intent here, just creativity.
As a fourth year History Honors student who has written no less than two papers on the subject of copyright, I can say that I am acting within the reasons of both United States and Canadian Copyright Laws. However, as this network is based in the United States, I therefore cite the four components of 'Fair Use': (1) This is a completely not-for-profit artistic endeavor; (2) Yes, these are copyrighted works held by corporate entities, but the manner in which they have been appropriated (i.e.: the Fanvid) is of a common use documented and allowed for years; (3) Though I have used the complete recording of 'Lights' it has been integrated into the video and is therefore inseparable from the video itself; (4) Moreover the video is directed at an audience which has already seen the film Balto and therefore does not act as a spoiler to its targeted demographic, though it might furthermore act as a promotional film for those viewers who have yet to see the film (which by the way was egregiously lacking in local DVD stores).

"Lights", written by S. Perry and N. Schon, can be found on the albums Infinity (1978) and Journey Greatest Hits (1988, 2006). As the leadoff track to Infinity, the song introduced former Alien Project vocalist Steve Perry, who would forever become synonymous with the Journey sound.

  • Astonishing....Looks like Balto and Journey work very well together. Poor Steve. I bet his Vocals are on fire. Hopefully, in the future, he will start to tour. Once in a blue moon.

  • Thank you. I sat on this idea for a year until I had the ability to make the video. It was my first go at an AMV.

I know, I haven't heard anything from Steve in like a decade.

  • Just stopped by to check this out again. This is Defiantly some of your best work.

    Excellent!!

  • Im glad that you told me so.

  • that was a really cute video.

  • I always try to look for songs with the best fit, and since most of the music I like is not 'new' I hope that I am bringing something different to this genre.

  • Music fits very well with the animation!

    Keep up the great work.
