Taken from the American R&B and neo soul musician Maxwell's debut album 'Urban Hang Suite', Sumthin' Sumthin' has a cool laid back kinda vibe with a lot of potential to adlib. Had to tune down to Eb for this one. Enjoy!

  • I think if you varied it so you weren't doing way too many pops it would sound better. Those double pops changed the feel of this song big time. This bass line needs space, a bit of breathing. Maybe a slight swing to give it more feel/groove. You could probably build up your pops a little more nearing the end but yes, let it breathe more. Try it and let me know what you think. Otherwise sounding good dude. Nice bass sound too :-D

  • White boys stand up! I agree with SemiLeo - chill the fuck out a little bit with the pops. Nice work, nice work!

  • this is excellent!

  • white boy what you know about Mawell?! ;p its was nice I wanna learn bass too one day!! thanks for sharing! your really good!

  • Actually I think an amped-up version of this bassline like he's doing would really work in a live setting if the instrumentation around it was live players on a similar groove. You gotta remember, if this was a jam, the drummer would def switch it up to match that groove. In a song like this, it's all about filling in the spaces that the other instruments are not filling.

Throw me an axe and I'd love to do some muted, three-string funk strumming over this.

  • very nice....

  • Really good!! :-) I love your music choices too!

  • @MrSemiLeo

Exactly my thoughts. He's got good feel, and I like the technique, but...it's too busy for this song, which requires a bit more laid back style.

  • Awesome playing of this song...loved it....I got to try it now. Thanks for posting

  • @MrSemiLeo i agree
