  • Hey Ironically i have 3 dark brahmas and I didnt realize it until today LOL I love brahmas theyre the best :)

  • @BuddysFarm11 That is indeed funny! Glad you now know your birds better :)

  • She looks like my little Dark Brahma Bantam, Nugget.... When did she start laying?

  • @mypeeps112 This hen is four years old... but she probably began to lay at five months...

  • @HTCSWEOD

Wow! Our bantam hasn't started laying yet and she's about 9 months old!

  • @mypeeps112 If it is winter time... as it is now, without adding artificial light so you have approximately 14 hours of light per day, she may not lay until spring. Some breeds lay through winter, others (apparently like yours) may not be winter layers. Start at sunset, count backwards 14 hours and have a light come on early morning at that time... she may then be inspired (">

  • @HTCSWEOD Good news..... my bantam Nugget layed her FIRST egg YESTERDAY!!!!!!! I was so excited! It is about the size of a quarter.

  • @HTCSWEOD Yeah we were thinking that she might start in spring..... But we are actually doing the artificial light but i have no idea if its actually working..... But my other chickens are laying, except one other one, but she's starting to molt, which I'm sorta excited about because then i have these beautiful orangey feathers to make earrings with! But hopefully she will start laying soon because here in Colorado, it's getting really warm, it's supposed to be in the 60's on Saturday!

  • thank you for replying, such a beautiful bird! would love to keep these! where do you get yours? and where was this filmed? i knew the standard sized chicken was larger, just not sure how much by. i think there are also very large breeds of chicken too. thanks again for your knowlegde Dxxx

  • This, as shown, is the miniature version, bantam. These are smaller than guinea fowl.

The large standard sized Brahma are much larger than Guineas...

    Thanks for the question!
