why does it have a wheelie bar thing if its front wheel drive?

FWD drag cars started using these in 1999, the dynamics of the slicks in the front growing as wheel speed increases causes the weight to be shifter toward the rear - no matter how stiff the rear suspension is.
Bottom line, because its faster!
