During the summer of 2010, Dutch human rights charity Miles4Justice and the Red Hook Community Justice Center commissioned Groundswell Mural to create a large scale piece overlooking Valentino Park in Brooklyn. As part of the assignment, 15 young men and women researched current human rights events to inform the design with relevant and thought-provoking images.

In this video, the students share their thoughts on human rights, the mural making process and the new skills they learned.

Lead artists Chris Soria and Nicole Schulman led the project, which took seven weeks to complete. Youth muralists seen and heard in the video include Ye Yan, Chris Konecky, Ivan Jacobson, Keyla Rijo, Maikel Noyer, Jasper K, Fernando Tejeda, Isidoro Ramos and Shauna Fitzgerald.

Special thanks to Rampart Films for donating three Flip Video Camcorders to the Groundswell Community Mural Project and for allowing us to use this footage.
