As a science project my kids tried hatching grocery store eggs. It can be done, the box just has to be marked fertile. 8 out of 12 began development, 1 hatched. Here is a 5 day old baby chick hatched out of a grocery store fertile egg from Trader Joes. His name is Joey.

  • what do you do with the chickens when youre done with the project?

  • @xxmidorifarmerxx

We kept her in our backyard coop, along with the rest of our city chickens, for about a year and a half. Eventually, she went to live, along with two of her flock mates (including the other chick in the video who was her best friend,) with a family in Burbank.

We still keep lots of chickens. Right now our flock is mostly bantam cochins and an Easter Egger.

  • what do you feed the chicks right when they hatch

  • We feed them organic chick starter. It is sold by the bag at feed stores.

  • Hey, that means they're at least not battery cage hens. (They gotta be out in the open & mixing with the roosters to have fertilised eggs!)
