On the race track at Motorsport Ranch behind a track prepared 350Z. The Z over-braking into Ricochet and wagonwheel, cost me 2 seconds on this lap.

  • I really liked my Z too, but it was a soft touring car compared to my Porsche even in the most tame street configuration. If I couldn't have a Porsche, I think I would choose a Miata. A lot cheaper to track. I would definitely pick a Z if I was still dating though. Much more of a chick magnet.

  • yep, I agree. The Miata would be my top pick for a poor man's Porsche the track. The z only if I had to have a hard top or a date.

  • I have yet to see a Z on the track, prepped or not that can hang with a Porsche. Hope I do before too long. I had a Z back in the 80's that I really loved.

  • John,

After driving Brian's 350Z on the track several times. I can say that is is very good, but it lacks the feedback of the Porsche. Which really limits is ability to be driven in the corners on the edge. We found that nothing can fix it. Its a limitation of the Z's steering system.

If I was unable to afford a Porsche, then the 370z would be the coupe on the top of my list.

I have yet to run into a Z lover that has driven both a Porsche and a Z ON THE TRACK, that doesn't pick Porsche.

  • just wonder what kind of system u run for the vid? so GT5 feel, i like it

  • I don't know. The Cayman is lighter and a little more balanced giving it a little edge in the corners.

The 370z should have a small advantage on the straights. But lap after lap that extra weight will hurt braking performance and give that back.

Articles and vidoes seem to place the Cayman #1 and the 370z a close enough second. One of the videos you watched placed the Cayman #1, with the 370z #2 but with one lap that was 0.3 seconds faster.

The 370z is a great sportscar at a great price.

  • More than likely the 370Z is going to have better times than your car. There's a vid on here where it goes against a 911 carrera, and has identical times. Those things really handle on a much better level than the Z that they replace.

  • They know where I live. Sent them over to the motorsport ranch any weekend. I hope they won't slow down my lap times like the 350z.

  • Nice. Those caymans handle pretty nice. Now go find a 370Z to run against :P

  • I don't know the year. It looked showroom new. But the 350z was fully track prepped, with a stripped interior and roll cage.

It took a full lap to catch him (1.7miles). But I really had to slow in the last few corners to keep behind him, until we got to a legal passing zone.

His car was real twitchy coming out of the final corner. While, I was only at 80%, waiting for him to pick a side for me to pass him on.
