Lauren Herman's original commitment as a 2011 CGI U attendee was to expand a microcredit program that she helped create in Kenya. After learning that many borrowers lack certain skills and knowledge as microfinance participants, Lauren decided to change tact; she applied for the Judith Lee Stronach Baccalaureate Prize at UC Berkeley to spend eleven months in Nairobi to create a consumer education manual for microfinance borrowers. The content will expand upon the financial literacy and consumer awareness of Kenyan borrowers, and contribute to the programs of consumer organizations.
