Mr. Callos,
I've watched several of your videos tonight for the first time tonight. I envy the way you pass on knowledge to your students. I truly enjoyed your "how big is your self defense" video. It's true, only after self defense is no longer a concern do you learn as a martial artist that martial arts is about much more than self defense, and more about building relationships. Your an inspiration. Thank you for your wisdom!

Mr. Callos you're always an inspiration dedicated to old values that are slowly fading away. Karate from the inside out, a beautiful way of life. God bless you and yours. JVC

It seems a very long time since to be accepted into a class that you had to actually demonstrate the "martial" soft skills inherent with the martial arts; such as discipline and respect. Great video. Thanks.

Coming from a traditional Shotokan background and having moved on to more "modern" training systems, the one thing i miss from the "old school" is the emphasis on character and the development of a better human being through the martial arts, not just a great fighter. Tom, you're an anachronism that is sorely needed, and it's wonderful to know you're there.

Tom, I'm a 2 dan Aikido black belt, and I would like to add subtitles in Portuguese to your video, so I could distribute it among my folks at the dojo. What do you think?

I think Tom Callos passes on the modern philosophy of martial arts training. The old "kick him til he pukes" mentality has mostly left our portion of this industry. Tom - please continue to educate us who have been doing this for many years and inform the ones who still have not found "the way".

Great work Tom. You are the Man!

Tom you have described why it is not really possible for very young individuals to be black belts. There is so much more to growing into the role and even at the age of 54 I realize every day that there is so much growth for me to make in a quest to live a life of a master. Thank you.
Joe, Thank you for the comment. Young people should be encouraged to "be" black belts --and the requirements and expectations should be adjusted. You're never too young to practice being a more complete, aware, participative human being. I've been trying to get this stuff down since age 9 ---does it ever end? Yes...I think it ends, in fact I'm sure of it. In the mean time, I keep working on the way --and think kids ought to start early.
