A documentary about Youtube and other Information Communication Technologies (ICT).
I made this for my dissertation project at the University of Derby while studying Third world development BSc (I know that term is out of date now and I consider it more global development hence the doc being about youtube). It got a C+ but i'm more interested in what you think so please comment and rate!
I know it's not very professional (I didn't study a film course)so please observe the message over the medium; that youtube can and should be used to help people.
Also I'd like to say thankyou very vey much to all those who helped me with this project, I hope you like it!
Special thanks to the websites;

www.youtube.com

Clip relevance explanation below;

Barack Obama. U.S. President -
Introduces some of the effects of globalisation, he himself represents the changing world; mainly changes in racial attitudes and political publicising.
Google earth is exemplary of the digital age, it is quite literally a digital world which makes it a good analogy for the evolving real world. Google also now own Youtube so it also represents the potential direction for the site.

Jo Butler. UNCTAD -
Highlights one of Youtube's connections with globalisation; the reduction of time and space being barriers for interaction.

Barack Obama. U.S. President -
Establishes the influences of this study technology has changed the way we live, this is important because Im investigating how it has and continues to do so.

Jo Butler. UNCTAD -
Highlights the potential and indicates we have progressed from the past.

Gordon Brown. U.K. - Prime Minister -
References to new world order, the emergence of a 'one world' global structure. Youtube is example of 'one world' attitudes by creating an online global community.

Barack Obama. U.S. President -
Youtube embraces and symbolises the globalisation of the planet and this concept of interacting and sharing with the online global community is very unlikely to go away, at least not for many years. Those who try to fight it are likely to miss out on the benefits because they spend their time dealing with the negative effects.

Youtube screen shots-
This short section aims to give an overview of what Youtube can ideally be used for.

The Jimmy experience-
These few clips are an abstract of a thirty minute documentary I made about life in the Gambia. I was the inspiration behind this project as the whole idea was to spread the message through Youtube.

Tank man clip -
This clip is one of the most moving, influential and inspiring pieces of film I have ever seen in my life. I remember seeing it for the first time and it represents bravery, dignity and defiance of oppression , but not only that; it perfectly demonstrates the power and capability that film, as a medium, has to change the world we live in. If it had not been filmed it probably would not be remembered and the same goes for other events, film preserves and protects the past, whether it be good or bad. Youtube is just one medium in which to share such moments.

Rob Morgan-Free lancer film producer -
I met this man at the airport and got
chatting as our plane was delayed. He worked in film production and uses Youtube for research himself, although he isn't directly involved in development issues he illustrates the way in which the site can be used to easily explore a variety of videos on a specific topic. This underlines point about Youtube being a extremely useful source of reference.

Www.youtube.com/non-profits-
A short clip which introduces the non-profits section of Youtube's website. This sets the mood for what the project is about.

Michael Meier - OCHA -
Establishes the idea of global connection, we are not so different after all.

Waking Life (2001)
Waking life Gives a perspective of global population and illustrates that individual action is effective and important.

Craig Venter
Shows importance of involvement.

    some people dont like the Advertisments either

    they are Annoying, this WAS meant to be for people to communicate, Not for adds & comercials we see on TV Everyday.
