Great old footage..........i started going in the mid 80's when i moved to texas. Went this summer on 2010. camped and had a great time. Beutiful park. Thanks for the video.
"Pop a Top Again!" They're still playing it at the dances! I grew up going to Garner in the 70s and the dam was very similar to this video - lots of fun rapids to tube through. Unfortunately, hard to find a lot of rapids these days. Took our kids last summer and am working on reservations for next summer - our oldest turns 16 and she's bringing her friends to celebrate - they are really looking forward to those dances!
Couldn't help but notice how slim people were before fast food places. Loved Garner in the 60s! I wonder if the old song, Goin to the River, is in any of the older videos? (from the pavillion jukebox)
After the Depression my grandparents went to Garner and when they had kids they took my dad, aunt and uncle every summer and, even though my dad raised us in California we made that trip to texas every summer to spend our vacation at Garner State Park . Thank you for preserving our history!
Sure was great to be a kid back then.
Thanks for sharing this.
