Pinschers can be challenging when clipping the nails. But if you let your vet do it, he can't see either where the quick (blood vessels) is. Better to clip the nails about every two weeks and remove only a bit each time.

  • @BumbleDumle: Actually my dog still does not enjoy having the nails trimmed, she expects to be paid with treats ;-) For your dog, first you should start with only taking the paws in one hand and reward with the other hand - you can hold the clipper in the rewarding hand. Next it would help to have someone assist you. Ask the person to give a treat, when you move the clipper to the toes. Do not yet clip, but just work on this to take the scare out of it. Practice only for 5 minutes.

  • Your dog seems very calm and happy when you trim the nails! My dog is simply terrified of the nail clipper, and trimming the fur between the pads. Do you have any tips on how to make her less scared?

  • @itsstillfriday Thank you! :-) Yes she is very shiny, from the outside and the inside.

  • That's officially the SHINIEST puppy in the world!! :-)
