To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, members of the U.S. Merchant Marine share how they helped evacuate people from lower Manhattan and brought supplies and first responders back to the World Trade Center site. More than 300,000 people were evacuated by water on 9/11 - the largest unplanned water evacuation in the history of the United States.

i am proud to be a part of the historic fireboat JOHN J HARVEY which used its archaic old ship to pump water to the site of the two building collapses, when the fire department couldn't. They worked for 80 hours straight..after they evacuated many people from lower manhattan. They need help financially and physically..deck painting and the like...

Congress, DOT, and Secretary LaHood: Fund the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy appropriately. The Midshipmen and staff at this Federal Service Academy deserve facilities that are safe and up-to-date.
